A Norwich based firm is supporting a campaign to make Norfolk’s businesses the greenest in the country. As part of National Recycle Week new statistics have been released which indicate 80% of businesses in the UK do not have recycling schemes in place.
The research, carried out by organisers of Green Office Week last month, also found that 55% of people work alongside colleagues who disregard green working practices or are deliberately wasteful.
ESE Direct, a supplier of a whole range of recycling products, advises businesses on implementing office, warehouse and industrial recycling schemes and environmentally-friendly working practices.
Simon Francis from ESE Direct said: “Recycling at work shouldn’t be difficult. It can start with just a simple system of colour-coded bins in the office, or four wheeled recycling bins and rack sacks in the warehouse or factory, to enable employees to clearly see where to put their rubbish.”
In the last year 45.3% of Norfolk’s waste was recycled.
Mr Francis said: “Norfolk is already doing a relatively good job at recycling but we could do even better. If all businesses educated their teams to think about recycling paper, cardboard, packaging, wooden pallets, empty ink cartridges, old mobile phones and batteries or even surplus / redundant steel and plastic goods, we could make Norfolk the greenest county in the UK. “
Household recycling in the UK has increased by 32% over the last decade but many businesses are still failing to address the bigger issue of office, warehouse and industrial waste.
“Norfolk could set the benchmark for the rest of the UK,” he said. “Once bins, sacks, wheelie bins or skips are in place and employees are properly instructed, waste can be easily sorted.
“Local Councils are a great place to go for advice on how to recycle waste and most will have schemes in place to dispose of it for you.”
