Product description

When you need to prevent access to ladders on site, then look no further than this ladder guard, which is suitable for many different ladders. Health and safety standards are maintained with this guard, which simply hooks over the rungs and is locked into place at the rear. If your ladder has internal rungs measuring 250mm – 375mm, then this is the ideal bit of kit for you. Quickly and easily fasten the solid brass padlock which is also included.

UK legislation relevant to the need for ladder guards include:

The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 - Places a duty on those in control of non-domestic premises to ensure that the means of access and exit are safe.

The Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 (CDM) - Requires a Principal Contractor to ensure that only authorised people are allowed on site and access to unauthorised workers is limited from areas where hazards may be present.

The Occupiers Liability Act 1957 - Places a duty on the occupier of premises to take reasonable care to see that visitors are reasonably safe in using the premises for the purpose for which they were invited.

The Occupiers Liability Act 1984 - Extends this common law duty of care to persons other than visitors, i.e., trespassers.

The Working at Height Regulations 2005 - Includes requirements for the protection of workers and visitors, preventing unauthorised people from entering areas where there is a risk of falling a distance.

The Provision & Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER) Regulation 7 - Where the use of work equipment involves specific hazards, its use must be restricted to those designated persons given the specific task of using it and repairing it.

In order to comply with Health & Safety legislation, an employer, contractor or land owner should review and control potential hazards. With ladders, this means removing and storing them safely when not in use, if this is not viable, then specifically designed locking ladder guards with appropriate warning notices should be considered.
